Default Who's at fault?

I was involved in an accident in a gas station parking lot. What happend was i was following my friends to the gass station. She pulled into a spot then i pulled in to the one directly to the left of her car. As i was pulling into the spot. One of the passengers opens the back left side car door. The dents and both my car and his almost tell the story.

I had very little/ no time to react to the opening door, yet the passenger says that I "technically" hit a park car, implying that im at fault. But like i said, i had very little time to react.

My question is: Do we add up the total cost of the two cars and split the cost 50/50? or is someone at fault

Since, there is some damage to the car so it needs to be compensated. But i would suggest rather than going to courts if you can come to a mutual compromise/understanding than that will be the best option.

Hi

Don't make it as a big issue and you better have a gentle take and come compromise as the car is damaged.. Compromising is very much better istead of making a big issue.

the fault is not yours, but the situation has to be dealt with mutual compromise and not with harsh words
