Default claim denied!!!

an year ago, I moved to NY so, I placed some of the property in a public storage facility. The public storage manager advised us to insure our property as they were not responsible for any loss or damage, which we did. but later I recieved a letter from the storage company informing me that my facility may have been broken into. I could not do anything as I was in NY. after some weeks, i went back to and checked out the place. The unit had been re-locked by the manager, i found some items missing. I obtained the police report and filed a claim but they denied on the technicality that I needed to show forceful entry by presenting the broken lock. The manager who discovered the break in said he did not find any of the broken locks. then, how can they ask me to produce that which was stolen? Any advice is welcomed.
