Default mortgage and bankruptcy?

Hello there,
I have a query to ask i.e. if a mortgage has been signed and notarized, does it have to be recorded in order to be valid and to be recognized in bankruptcy proceedings according to the date it was signed? Any idea?
Thank you so much!
