i received a letter from an unknown person telling me about my relationship with a married woman. though some of his info is true but everything written in the letter is not true. if that information would become public, it will damage my reputation along with others. is there anything I can do to protect myself. If some of the information is incorrect, could I sue for slander?

It depends if you want this information out or not. If you don't want it spread around, than dont sue because nobody spreads things around like the news and media....
