Default warranties responsibility?

hello guys,
I purchased a used car with 2500 mile warranty. just few days after, I brought the car back to the dealership as it was using oil. There i found that the engine needs to be replaced. They stated that the warranty was through a completely separate company and hence the repairs were denied by the company. Isn't the dealership responsible to repair the car? What is the best approach to deal with this situation? plz assist.
thank you very much!
