Default minor age treatment?

Hi there,
My psychiatrist friend got in trouble for treating "minor children" without having special training in child psychiatry. He failed to refer the "minor children" to an appropriately trained specialist in child psychiatry. Please inform me, how old would a minor have to be to be treated by an adult psychiatrist? Are all minors supposed to be treated by child psychiatrists? Any idea?
Thank you.

A minor is considered a minor until age of 18 or 21, depending on the state. So, a "minor" child would never be treated by an adult psychiatrist until they reach that age.
