Default late/overpayment issues.

some years before, I refinanced a loan from a bank to my CU and now bank says I still owe one last payment on the loan. I explained that the balance was payed and the title was even released. the supervisor researched the refinace records and found that the bank was at fault. they had sent me two overpayment checks and their should have only been one and they want the money back so sending me late payment notices with late charges and have even reported to the credit bureau. Is this right after so much time? What are my options?
Thanks for your time.
