Default blackmailing?

Hi friends,
From last 5 years, my credit has been clean i.e. no late fees or payments. After divorce, pay my bills at the end of the month. But the last few payments I've had to make are taking 2-4 days to post and I am being charged late fees and companies have said they will not report me late if I pay the $40.00 late fee? Isn't this a blackmail? Is this legal and is there any recourse? Plz reply anyone.
Thank you.

Contact your state Attorney General's office about the practice. A letter from the Attorney General's office will fix the problem.
