Default our responsibilty?

Hi there,
We coaches a travel softball team and we have a girl, 18 years old, with a chronic injured shoulder that requires surgery to fix. I guess she is putting the surgery off because she was told she would not be able to play after. She wants to play so badly and tells us she is ok, but then anytime she has any contact with that shoulder she cries in pain. I feel uncomfortable about the liability of playing her knowing she has this injury. Can we be held responsible for letting her play with this knowledge?
Thank you.

Since, she's an adult so you certainly don't have any liability to her parents. You must explain to her that continuing to play with an injured shoulder could make her condition worse. Though, it's her choice to make. Also, get waivers of liability from all the players on the team, but if not you definitely should start.
