Default asked to pay damages...

hello all,
sometime back, i had an argument with a person and he then kicked me in the stomach. I had to go to the hospital. after few days, i break his car window so, I was questioned by the cops but there was also other damages that wasn't caused by me. he had to rent a car while his car was being repaired. His insurance company is requesting $3500 for the damages. I dont feel that I should pay the full amount. Should I try to pay partial payment to either of them? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

if the amount they are asking for other damages is affordable, you should try pay that rather than going for attornies, courts etc. as this will only adds to your expenses.
